The main purpose of Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Journal of Social Sciences Institute is to create a scientific platform where scientists working in the field of social sciences share their knowledge, experience, evaluations, opinions and suggestions, and to contribute to the studies in the field of social sciences at national and international levels.
Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Journal of Social Sciences Institute is a refereed, scientific journal published twice a year (June and December). Our journal includes applied studies, analyses and evaluations, and qualitative research in all areas of social sciences.
In order to upload your article to our journal, the author button must be marked in the My Account / Edit My Profile option. In order for the referee process to be initiated, your article must be organized according to the writing rules (click to download).
The maximum number of pages for submitted articles is 20. A single-page plagiarism prevention program report indicating the similarity rate of the articles submitted to our journal, an ethics committee report requested for articles requiring an ethics committee decision (see Ethical Principles and Publication Policy) and a copyright transfer form must be uploaded by the responsible author together with the article.
In order to facilitate the follow-up of the studies published in our journal by foreign readers and to increase the interest and citation count towards our journal and publications, an extended abstract in English is requested for the studies to be published. An Extended Abstract in English will be added after the References section of articles written in Turkish. (A Turkish extended abstract will not be added to articles written in English). The extended abstract will be between 750-1000 words. The formal writing features of the journal that are valid for the main text are also valid for the extended abstract. Extended Abstract will include the subheadings “Introduction”, “Method” and “Result and Discussion”.
ULAKBİM has updated the TRDİZİN Journal Evaluation Criteria for 2020 and detailed the articles regarding the ethics committee approval that must be in scientific research. In this context;
- In all articles that require an Ethics Committee Approval Certificate, ethics committee information and statements must be stated and documented.
- In the declaration regarding ethics, statements regarding “compliance with research and publication ethics” and/or “compliance with copyright regulations for the ideas and works of art used” must be included in the explanatory footnote section at the bottom of the first page.
- Information regarding permission (board name, date and issue number) must also be included in the explanatory footnote section at the bottom of the first page.
- It must be stated that permission has been obtained from the owners for the use of scales, surveys and photographs belonging to others.
- In case reports (qualitative interviews, observations, etc.), information should be provided that the informed consent/consent form was signed.
Articles without this information and documents will not be accepted for publication even if the evaluation process is completed. (See the journal template for processing all this data)
- A similarity report must be added during the article upload process. Articles with a similarity rate of more than 20%, excluding the references, will not be accepted into the evaluation process.
Hatay Mustafa Kemal University Journal of Social Sciences Institute has adopted the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding ethical duties and responsibilities. Within the scope of publication ethics, it is important for all stakeholders (authors, readers and researchers, publisher, referees and editors) to comply with the standards regarding ethical principles.
Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
Author(s) who submit a study to our journal must comply with the following ethical responsibilities;
• The studies submitted by the author(s) are expected to be original. In cases where the author(s) benefit from or use other studies, they must refer to and/or quote them completely and accurately.
• Individuals who do not make a qualified contribution to the content of the study should not be indicated as authors.
• Any situations and relationships that may constitute a conflict of interest, if any, of all studies submitted for publication must be explained.
• Raw data regarding their articles may be requested from the author(s) within the framework of the evaluation processes; in such a case, the author(s) must be ready to present the expected data and information to the editorial board and scientific board.
• Authors must have a document showing that they have the rights to use the data used, the necessary permissions for the research/analysis or that the consent of the experimental subjects has been obtained.
• In the event that the author(s) notice a mistake or error regarding their published, early appearance or evaluation stage work, they are obliged to inform the journal editor or publisher, and cooperate with the editor in the correction or withdrawal processes.
Authors cannot have their work in the application process of more than one journal at the same time. Each application can be started after the completion of the previous application. Work published in another journal cannot be sent to our journal.
Ethical Responsibilities of Referees
All studies must be evaluated with "Blind Refereeing". Our journal's evaluation process is carried out with the principle of double-blind refereeing. Referees cannot directly contact the authors, evaluations and comments are communicated through the journal management system. During this process, reviewer comments on evaluation forms and full texts are communicated to the author(s) through the field editor. In this context, referees who evaluate studies for our journal are expected to have the following ethical responsibilities:
• They should only accept to evaluate studies related to their field of expertise.
• They should evaluate impartially and confidentially.
• If they think they are faced with a conflict of interest during the evaluation process, they should refuse to review the study and inform the journal editor.
• They should destroy the studies they have reviewed after the evaluation process due to the principle of confidentiality. They can only use the final versions of the studies they have reviewed after they are published.
They should evaluate objectively and only with regard to the content of the study. They should not allow nationality, gender, religious beliefs, political beliefs and commercial concerns to affect the evaluation.
They should evaluate constructively and with a polite language. They should not make derogatory personal comments that include hostility, slander and insult.
They should evaluate the studies they have accepted on time and in accordance with the above ethical responsibilities.
Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
Editors and field editors working in our journal should have the following ethical duties and responsibilities based on the "COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" and "COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" guidelines published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as open access:
General duties and responsibilities
Editors are responsible for every publication published in our journal. In the context of this responsibility, editors have the following roles and responsibilities:
• Making an effort to meet the information needs of readers and authors,
• Ensuring the continuous development of the journal,
• Carrying out processes to improve the quality of studies published in the journal,
• Supporting freedom of thought,
• Ensuring academic integrity,
• Continuing business processes without compromising intellectual property rights and ethical standards,
• Demonstrating openness and transparency in terms of publication on issues requiring correction and explanation.
Relations with readers
Editors should make decisions by taking into account the knowledge, skills and experience expectations of all readers, researchers and practitioners. The published studies should be original and contribute to the readers, researchers, practitioners and scientific literature. In addition, editors are obliged to take into account the feedback from readers, researchers and practitioners and to provide explanatory and informative feedback.
Relationships with Authors
The duties and responsibilities of editors towards authors are as follows:
•The importance of the work, its original value, its validity, the clarity of the expression and the journal's aims and objectives should be taken into consideration for positive or negative decisions.
